    SHAVASANA YOGA THERAPY

Shavasan”: A yogic exercise in the management of hypertension.

It is quite obvious that we practice everything with a motive. Shavasana has to be done for curing the following diseases:

    Brings down blood pressure
If anyone is engaged in excessive mental activities then it is beneficial

It soothes the nervous system during a fast

    Procedure.
a.Lie supine in an anatomical position i.e. legs kept apart with a comfortable distance and arms lying a little away from the body. Palms should be facing upward with fingers slightly flexed, as they are relaxed.

b.Relax the whole body, part by part. Start with the limbs, the head, neck, shoulders, thoracic cavity and then abdominal cavity. Try to feel every part, try to make it so relaxed that you feel that your entire weight is falling on the floor. Let the body fall on the floor completely. Do not resist.

c.Again contract the muscles, moving that part a little or extending it, or creating more stiffness in that particular part and then loosening it so as to relax.

d.Concentrate on breathing. Feel the breath inside the nostrils and then watch the movement of the abdomen while breathing.

    e.    Find out clearly what is the rhythm of inhalation and exhalation, especially the time ratio.

    f.    Start regulating inhalation and exhalation and consume equal time for both.

    g.    Then after a few minutes of regularized breathing, let go and let the breath flow normally.

h.Here is peak of Shavasana. The body should be totally relaxed. The breath is quiet, shallow and rhythmic. The mind is also quiet and is watching the breath.

    i.    Enjoy this state as long as you want.

J.When one wants to come out of this state, slowly open the eyes and become aware of the surroundings. Move the limbs a little and turn on one side. Stay for a few seconds and then slowly take to the sitting position.
